Fall Clouds

In science today, I taught my kindergarten friends all about clouds and I think that after today my kinder friends may officially be cloud experts! We learned about the three different clouds (cirrus, cumulus and stratus) and how you can tell they are a specific kind. We learned how clouds are made of of water and some are made of ice. We learned that clouds can make the temperature cooler and we also learned some cool facts about clouds. Did you know that some clouds can travel as fast as 100 mph? We had so much fun learning about clouds today! To go along with this lesson, I asked them to draw a fall cloud picture and label it. THey had so much fun drawing their pictures and learning about the weather today!
In math this week, we hace begun learning about measurement and why it is so important. In kindergarten, we don't learn to measure with rulers. We are learning how to measure using non-standard objects such as paper clips, wooden popsicle sticks, and unifix cubes. They are learning that when they measure an object to see how tall or wide something is they need to ensure they take what they are measuring with and line it up at the start of the object and measure the length or width all the way to the end. They also learned that when they measure, they need to make sure they are measuring the object in a straight line and putting what they are measuring with touching eachother in a row. This helps to ensure they get the right measurement. To help them get some more hands-on experience with measuring, I printed out some Halloween measurement activities where they got to measure various size things with unifix cubes. They ALL did a wonderful job measuring today!
In HMH literacy and reading, we are continuing to learn more letters and sounds to blend them together to read and write words. I am so proud of the growth they are making as readers and writers. We are also learning about complete sentences and how to identify the noun and predicate in sentences. Yesterday we learned about synonyms and antonyms. My kindegarten friends are learning so much! It's been a busy week in K-1 and with each day, they are growing more and more as learners!

Science Fun!

My kinders have loved kicking off our science unit last week learning all about weather! Today we learned how we can use our five senses to help us determine what the weather. With this lesson, we also talked about what fall weather looks like and feels like and they had fun drawing a fall picture in their weather journals today! I was so proud of their detailed pictures and how well they added things in their drawings from our science lesson. Great job, K-1!

Five Little Pumpkins

It was a fun filled day in K-1! All my little owls have been very busy learning letters/sounds, "new" heart words, learning the difference between fact and opinion and how being different from one another makes us special in literacy, finishing up Chapter 2 in math, and starting our science weather unit in science. Today I did a fun "Five Little Pumpkins" project with the class and they had so much fun following my step-by-step directions in making their own! We learned the rhyme with the motions and we did the project after. I am SO proud of everything my kindergarten friends are learning! They are growing a lot as learners and I couldn't be more proud of ALL of them!

My kindergarten friends are so excited about our "new" science unit where we will be studying the weather. To kick it off today, we talked about what it means to be a scientist and we did a little mini-book together. They LOVED doing the last page where they got to draw and color themselves as a scientist! It's going to be a fun unit!
