In class today, we learned about onomatopoeia which is the process of creating a word that phonetically imitates, resembles, or suggests a sound that it describes. Common onomatopoeias are animal noises such as "oink," "meow," "moo" and "roar." The class LOVED learning about it and finding onomatopoeia words in many different poems we studied today! I was so impressed with how quickly they were able to name the "sound" words when I asked them. Way to go, K-1 and K-3! To go along with the lesson, we read a poem together and they got to draw an illustration on their own that went with the poem. I asked them to draw it with pencil first, color it with crayon and label it on their own. I LOVED seeing all the creative illustrations! I was so impressed with all their hard work!

In math today, we did a subtraction activity that gave them some added practice with learning how to subtract two numbers within 10 using the "froggie counters." It was a subtraction color by number and as they colored in each piece it revealed a hidden picture. With more and more practice, they are becoming subtraction experts!

Besides the two activities I mentioned, we spent some of our day making some "secret" Mother's Day presents too. My kindergarten friends were so excited to make a special gift for their amazing moms.....they can hardly wait to give it to them this weekend! It is so cute!
