Happy Turkey Month!

With it being the first week of November, we made our November turkey calendars. When we make our monthly calendars, there are so many skills involved in putting it all together and I am impressed how much they have all grown as learners when we do this BIG projects. They did a great job writing in the missing numbers the correct way and cutting all the pieces to put it all together! When they were done, they were so PROUD of how they turned out! They look FANTASTIC!! WOW!!! Here are some pictures of the class with their calendars:

In math last week, we started Chapter 4 learning the comcept of "more than" and this week we have continued learning more about it. On Friday, we moved on to learning about "less than." My kindegarten friends LOVE math and the challenge of working with numbers learning many different fun concepts. Way to go, K-1!
In our structured literacy block of the day, we are continuing to learn more letters and sounds and continue plugging in what they have learned to read and write words on their own. I am so excited about how well they are decoding unknown words and encoding words when writing! It is SO FUN!In our reading block in the afternoon, we are continuing to learn about main events of a story and also working on identifying the characters and setting. They are having fun with our HMH read alouds and showing me what they have learned with each story. In our foundational skills part of the lesson we are learning about concepts of a sentence such as types of punctuation and what that means to the reader. We are also learning about how words are made up of a group of letters and how spaces between words show where words stop and start. We have learned that sentences are made up of words and spaces. We have practiced writing sentences together and ensuring we are writing complete sentences. We have also had the challenge of learning about pronouns too and the class is doing a great job identifying prounouns in given sentences. In some lessons, I have asked them to replace words in a sentence with a prounoun that I could swap it for. For example: Mom and I like music. In this sentence they could swap out Mom and I with the pronoun we and now the sentence would be We like music.
In science, we have been learning all about weather. They are doing a great job being little scientists and recording what they have learned in each lesson in their science journals. They are loving the hands-on experiences they are getting learning science such as making a windmill and windsock to learn about wind. Science has been so much fun! They are growing so much as learners and it's amazing! Have a great weekend, everyone!
