New Friends in K-1 and K-3!
Welcome to K-1 and K-3! I have had so much fun getting to know all my kindergarten friends the last few days! They are all doing a great job learning the kindergarten routine and I am amazed with all they know already! It's going to be such a fun year!
Here are some pictures of my kinder friends in my morning (K-1) class:

With today being May 2nd, we made our May calendars. It is always one of the activities my kinders look forward to most! They love seeing all the fun things that are happening at Olive for the month and putting together all the creative pieces to make their calendars! These activities help them with counting, writing numbers in order along with writing the numbers the correct way. They also help them work on the skill of following directions and organizing their materials to create a finished product. I was so impressed with how beautiful all my kinder friends' calendars turned out! They were excited to bring them home to share with all of you today! Here are some pictures of the morning class with their May calendars:

On Friday, it was color day for spirit week and kindergarten wore the color purple. To go along with this fun day, we made purple iris flowers out of construction paper. This project was a following directions activity where I had construction paper cut out in various shapes. They had to follow my step-by-step directions in how to cut each shape to turn it into another shape they would use for the project. They had SO much fun doing this activity and they couldn't wait to bring home their beautiful flowers to show their parents. The past few weeks I have been so amazed with how much my kinders have grown in their reading, writing and math skills! They have blown me away! I am SO proud of all of them!

With today being St. Patrick's Day, I did a directed draw leprechaun with both classes and they did a FABULOUS job! I couldn't believe how wonderful they all turned out! Both classes did a great job following my step-by-step directions and I can't believe how artistic they ALL are! Way to go, K-1 and K-3! HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY everyone!

In math this week, we have been learning all about flat shapes (2D) and solid shapes (3D). I am amazed with how quickly they are learning the names of the shapes and how well they are able to describe them to me. I also love hearing how they can explain the differences among them too. To go along with all they are learning about shapes, we did a mini-book today where they were given a shape and they had to draw something in the real world that resembled that shape. I also asked them to write the name of the object with their "brave spelling" that they drew on the page. They came up with some very creative things and I was so proud of their drawings and how well they spelled the words they wanted to write! It is truly AMAZING! Wow! Way to go, K-1 and K-3!

With today being March 1st, we made our March calendars in class today. They LOVED making this calendar and I was amazed with how wonderful they all turned out. They all did such a great job filling in the missing numbers from 1-31 and following my step-by-step directions in making the calendar! They were all so proud of their hard work on them and they couldn't wait to bring them home to share with all of you! Here are some pictures I took of all my kindergarten friends with their amazing March calendars:
In the morning class, we had a fun visit where two Hersey basketball players came to our class to read a few stories to them. I have never seen the class so quiet as they sat in awe listening to the boys read two cute stories. It was so much fun having them both in our class today! Thank you, Charlie and Jimmy! What a "special treat!"
