In math today, we learned about addition sentences. Both classes practiced hearing some addition stories and plugging in the information from the story into the addition sentences. They all did a wonderful job and I was SO impressed with how quickly they could figure out the answer to the addition problems when the sum was within 10. It was FANTASTIC!!

Next, we did "Weekend News" where both classes wrote about something they did over the weekend. I asked them to draw a detailed picture of something they did first where they drew it with pencil, colored it and labeled it. When they finished their picture, I then asked them to write one or two sentences about what they did using their "brave spelling." I also asked them to remember to do the three things good writers do such as beginning their sentence with a capital letter, putting finger spaces between their words and ending their sentences with punctuation. They did AMAZING! I was so amazed that I kept asking both classes if they sure they weren't 3rd graders. I was so proud of all their hard work and their writing was wonderful!

After math and "Weekend News," we headed outside for a well-deserved brain break. Both classes LOVED being able to go outside and play on the playground with all their kindergarten friends! It was fun seeing them all running around together with big smiles and having fun playing with one another!

In the afternoon class, I had a little more time in our day so we did some word work in shaving cream. The class was so excited about this fun activity and they had so much fun writing words in messy shaving cream. I kept hearing, " Mrs. Naughten, I could do this forever! It is so much fun!" They LOVED it and I was so proud of how well they were all writing the words I said out loud on their own by sounding them out. Way to go, K-3! The morning class will be doing this tomorrow. Here are some pictures of our shaving cream fun:

Today made me smile and it filled my heart with so much joy! My kindergarten friends are thriving and with each activity they did today, I had so much fun seeing the growth they have all made. Way to go, K-1 and K-3! It's such an honor being their teacher this year!

On Friday, I ended our fun Dr. Seuss week with reading the book, Oh! The Places You'll Go! After listening to the story, I did an activity with both classes to go along with it. We made hot air balloons out of paper and in the basket of the balloon they wrote about where they would go if they could ride inside of it. I was so impressed with all their cute ideas and how well they all did with their "brave spelling." Each day they are becoming more confident in themselves as writers and it is so exciting to see! After writing, they colored it and added detail to the background of their paper that went along with their writing. When everyone finished their projects, we shared them all with the class! I was so proud of all the wonderful work everyone did on this activity! Way to go, K-1 and K-3! I hung their projects up in the hallway so everyone could see the incredible work my kindergarteners did! Here are some pictures of their cute projects:

In math we are working on sorting things by one attribute. Both classes are doing a wonderful job learning this new math concept! Way to go, K-1 and K-3! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Today was "Silly Socks" day in kindergarten where I read the class the Dr. Seuss' book called, Fox In Socks, and we wrote about the silly socks we wore to school today. The class had so much fun seeing all the fun socks that the class and I wore today. There were mis-matched socks, socks with funny pictures on them and socks that had things hanging off of them. The room was full of excitement and giggles for our fun day! For our writing activity today, I asked the class to add detail to the socks picture I gave them so that they would look like the ones they wore to school today. Then I asked them to color it and label it. Next, I asked them to finish the writing prompt that was on the sheet of paper where I asked them to write why their socks were so silly. They all did a FABULOUS job! I was so impressed! They are becoming braver and stronger writers everyday! I LOVED the confidence I saw in all my kindergarten friends as they wrote about their socks today. Way to go, K-1 and K-3!

When the class was finished with their silly socks activity, I asked them to do a hidden picture activity. For this activity, they used a color key that told them what color to color specific numbers on the 100 chart. When they were done coloring all the numbers, it revealed a hidden picture which was the Cat In The Hat. They LOVED doing this activity and I loved seeing the excitement in their faces when the picture was revealed. It was too cute! This activity was wonderful for number recognition! Way to go, K-1 and K-3!

In math today, I began a new unit where it focused on comparing objects by one attribute. The class did a great job with the lesson and I was impressed how well they implemented what they learned in filling out the student workbook pages all on their own. Yay!

In K-3 today, we got to celebrate Harry's 6th Birthday with him. The class LOVED singing "Happy Birthday" and celebrating him today. Happy Birthday, Harry!
