We have been busy owls in K-1 and K-3! In Jolly Phonics we learned the letter sounds/motions for the letters i and p. With learning more letters, both classes have been able to sound out more and more words. They have been so excited when they realize they sounded out a word all by themselves! I LOVE seeing all the BIG smiles on their faces as they see the growth they are making each day in my class!

In math, I have continued to teach the concept of same and different. We have also been working on how to count objects one-to-one to ensure they are counting things correctly and working on writing numbers 1-4. They have LOVED our math lessons and look forward to filling out the math workbook pages with all we are learning!

With it being the first day of September tomorrow, I sent home our September sight words for the month. I introduced them all to the class and we will continue to work on the 8 sight words this whole month so that they can identify them quickly while seeing them. I told all my kinder friends that they should be cutting out the words at home in the sight word packet and gluing them all on index cards. If they can, I asked them to hole punch each card and add them to a ring. If they can't, I asked them to keep the cards together in a stack. I told them that each day they should be flash carding through the sight words so they are practicing them each day. I always tell them that "Practice makes better!" I don't believe that anything is perfect but the more we practice, the better we can get at something! They did such a great job practicing the sight words today and they were excited to add these new words to their sight word vocabulary! They are well on their way to beginning to read!

Today, we had our reading portion of MAP testing. Both classes did a wonderful job for their first time and I was so impressed! Way to go, K-1 and K-3! On friday, we will have the math portion of our MAP testing.

On Friday, we learned a new Jolly Phonics letter sound for the letter "Tt." Both classes did a fabulous job during the lesson and practicing what they learned in their Jolly Phonics packets.  We also added the letters "Aa" and "Tt" to our Jolly Phonics sound books. We ran out of time on Thursday when we learned "Aa" so we took some time on Friday to add both sounds.  For homework this weekend, I asked both classes to find four things that begin with the letter "Tt" and add them to their Jolly Phonics sound books. I can't wait to check their sound books tomorrow to see what they all found! They are having so much fun learning the letters, sounds and motions and beginning to put them together to read words!

In math on Friday, we are continued to learn the concept of same and different! They are having so much fun showing me what they are learning and showing off by completing the work on their own in their math workbooks.

I am so proud of all my kindergarten friends and seeing what they are all learning! They are like little sponges soaking up each and every part of our kindergarten day. Our classroom has been full of excitement and BIG smiles and I am so proud of how well they have learned our class routine! Way to go, K-1 and K-3! I am looking forward to another fun week this week!

Today in both classes, we began our Jolly Phonics program. We learned all about the letter "Ss" today. We learned the name of the letter, the sound and motion it makes and how to write the letter correctly on the lines. Both classes applied what they learned about the letter "Ss" in telling me some words that began with that letter too. They did a wonderful job with the lesson and I was impressed how well they did telling me things they could think of that began with the learned letter and finding things in their packet on their own that began with it as well. Way to go, K-1 and K-3! To help my kinder friends practice what they learned about the letter, we did an "Ss" practice page in their Jolly Phonics packet and we glued the letter in their Jolly Phonics sound book. Whenever we learn a new letter in class, we will do a practice page in class where they are applying what they learned on their own. For homework, I will ask them to find four things that begin with that letter sound and glue or draw them in their sound book. For the first few letters we are learning this week, we are doing their sound book homework together and I am keeping them here at school. Next week, I will be sending their sound books home where they will complete the homework at home each day and send it back so I can check off that they completed it. They will be bringing their sound books to and from school each day until we are done learning all of the Jolly Phonics program. I will talk to you more in depth about this at Curriculum Night. Here are some pictures of my kinder friends learning all about the letter "Ss" today:

In math today we learned about the concept of "same and different." We applied what we learned by doing a math page in our math workbooks. The class did a wonderful job on the lesson today.

We were busy owls today but I am so proud of all my kinder friends are learning! They are doing great! Have a wonderful night, everyone!

We had such a fun day today in K-1 and K-3! The kids are doing such a wonderful job getting used to the kindergarten routine and enjoying each day with all their "new" kindergarten friends! Today in class, we did a following directions activity where they made a balloon bouquet out of square colored construction paper. I taught them how to turn a square into a circle by simply cutting a little bit off all four corners and rounding it out. When they did this, they had 6 balloons in 6 different colors to make a balloon bouquet. Before making this project, I told them this was an activity where they would have to be a really good listeners so that they could do the project from start to finish on their own. I told them that I wanted to see how well they could do it without any of my help. We met as a class on the big rug where I gave them step-by-step directions on how to complete the project until it was complete. I LOVE doing these projects because it's always so much fun for me to see how my kinder friends' projects turn out when given the same directions. I like seeing how their individual personalities shine through in their projects when they are complete. They all did a fabulous job and they had so much fun making this project today!

After making this fun project, we took a "brain break" and we headed outside for some playtime on the playground. They all had so much fun playing tag with one another, going on the slides, swinging on the swings and climbing on the playground structure. It's fun to see their cute interactions with one another and the friendships that are being formed!  Lots of BIG smiles and giggles on the playground!

When we got back inside the classroom, we did some math where we learned about the numbers 1 and 2. We did a few pages in our math workbooks so that they could practice what we learned on their own. They LOVED doing math today and did a great job in our math lesson!

It was  fun day in K-1 and K-3 and I am looking forward to starting our Jolly Phonics program with both classes tomorrow! Have a wonderful night, everyone!
