It was so fun welcoming all my kindergarten friends back to school after the LONG Labor Day weekend! It sound like many of you did a lot of fun family things this past weekend and the kids were SO excited to tell me all about it!
Today we really dove into our curriculum where I did a literacy lesson with the class and I also did the first lesson in math. Today in math, we learned all about the numbers 1 and 2 and we learned how to write the number the correct way forming it from the top to the bottom. For each number, I taught the kids a rhyme to help them making the number with the correct formation. Here are the rhymes:
1- straight line down, then we're done, that's the way to make a 1!
2- Jump up and around the railroad track...choo...choo....chooo....choooo!
After our group lesson, they showed me what they learned in their workbooks. They did an EXCELLENT job! Way to go, K-1!
We had time today to do a little cutting lesson as well where we talked about things we should and should not do with scissors. They we practiced cutting by doing a little caterpillar activity. This activity not only helped my kinders with cutting but also helped them with their coloring as well. We have been learning how to color in the lines and to make sure they are coloring ALL the peek-a-boo spots (white spots) when they are coloring something. I was so impressed with all of their cutting and coloring!
During our afternoon is when we have "purposeful playtime" and I LOVE seeing all the cute interactions amongst the class and seeing all the kind interactions and how they are all playing with one another. I spend this time too playing with all of them as well developing a relationship with them while also observing and guiding play when needed. This is such a sweet class and I am so excited about getting a full day with ALL of them this year!
It was such a fun day in K-1! Remember we have school pictures so don't forget to send your child to school with their BEST smile! If you haven't ordered photos online, please send in your child's picture order form with them too. Have a great night, everyone!
