Wind
Today, I taught another fun science lesson with the class about wind. We read two short non-fiction books about wind and then we got to make another wind tool. Yesterday, we made a wind pinwheel and got to try it out on the fan to see if it worked. Today, we made a windsock and got to try it outside at the end of the day to see if it was windy. To make the windsock, we used paper fish and we colored them with markers. When the kids were done coloring them with markers, I took a spray bottle and sprayed them with a little water. This way the colors could blend together like a rainbow. After they dried I made them into a windsock and I attached a string. The class couldn't wait to take their beautiful windsocks outside to try in the wind. When we went outside, their faces lit up with excitement because they had so much fun flying their windsocks in the wind! Way to go, K-1!
In math today, I did a hands-on activity that helped us to practice the skill of identifying 10's and 1's in a number. This was challenging beacause the pictures had numbers from 10-100. They did an EXCELLENT job counting the 10 blocks and the single blocks to add them together to get the correct totals. Way to go, K-1! I am so impressed with all their hard work and how much they are learning!
In literacy today, we continued learning more letters and sounds and practiced implementing this skill into reading more words with the new sound. They are all reading and writing words on their own and it's AMAZING!! Yay! It was such a fun day in K-1!
