Alphabet From The Sky

Today I read an informational text to the class for our HMH literacy lesson. This book was a really neat book that used satellite imagery to find accidental letters in landscapes created by buildings, roads, buildings, railroads. The class LOVED this book and finding the hidden letters on each page before they were revealed to us! One of the pages of the book had a satellite picture taken of a landscape in Inverness not far from Olive. They thought that was so neat! To go along with this informational text, I had them do an activity where I asked them to draw the first letter of their name hidden in a picture of a community like the book we just read. I was so proud of the creativity and hard work they put into this activity and I was amazed with their detailed drawings. They had so much fun with it. Way to go, K-1! Here are some pictures of them creating their drawings and some of them with their finished work.
We had a busy day today moving along in our routine from break and I am so amazed with how well they are all doing plugging right along with curriculum in reading, writing and math! They are having so much fun with all we are learning and I am amazed with how quickly they are learning new concepts. The past two days we have been learning about possessive nouns and they are doing great learning about this challenging new concept and having fun showing me what they learned. Way to go, K-1! Have a great night, everyone!
