Polar Bears
Today we had so much fun learning all about Polar Bears and making the CUTEST project to go along with it. Before we made the project today we listened to a video that taught us all about Polar Bears. We learned so many "new" interesting facts! Did you know that Polar Bears fur looks white to humans but their fur is really made of translucent fur. We also learned that male polar bears can weigh up to 1,500 pounds and a female polar bear can weigh up to 1,000 pounds. They are beautiful, big, strong animals! To go along with what we learned, we painted a polar bear face by using white paint and forks. The class used the forks to spread the paint from the middle of the paper out to make it look like a face. Next, they cute out the polar bear face pieces and glued it on the face. After that, we sat as a class and I wrote on a piece of chart paper what polar bears CAN, HAVE, ARE. We wrote some facts in each catergory such as: Polar bears CAN swim, Polar Bears HAVE sharp claws, Polar Bears ARE heavy. Then I gave them writing paper and asked them to write down one or two facts they learned about polar bears today. They all did such a great job with their polar bear project and sharing what they learned! Yay, K-1!
In math, we finished up Chapter 5 and the class was so excited to bring home their finished math books today! They don't neeed to bring them back, we are done with the first math book and it is theirs to keep. I will be handing out the next math book to them next week as we begin Chapter 6. We are plugging right along in math and they are all doing such a great job learning all the new concepts! In HMH, we are learning more letters and sounds and I am so proud of what wonderful readers and writers they are becoming! This week, we learned possessive nouns and talked about identifying the central idea of a story. My kindegarten friends are learning so much and I am amazed with how much they have all grown as learners! Have a great weekend, everyone and GO BEARS!!!
