Today was such a fun day in K-1 and K-3! It was "Wacky Wednesday!" It was so much fun greeting all my kindergarten friends dressed in my "wacky" outfit and seeing how they would react. A lot of them said,"Mrs. Naughten...I didn't think that was you!" It was so funny! I also LOVED seeing all the creative "wacky" outfits they all came to school in too! Our classroom was full of smiles, giggles and fun today! In honor of "Wacky Wednesday," I read Dr. Seuss' book called Wacky Wednesday and both classes had so much fun looking at all the pages to find all the hidden things that were "wacky."  They did such a great job finding all of them! Next, I gave them a "Wacky Wednesday" mini-book and I asked them to use their brave spelling to fill out the words that were missing on each page. They did a WONDERFUL job filling in the missing words with their "brave spelling!" I know this book was challenging and I loved all of my kindergarten friends' positive attitudes where they all worked hard to do their very best. I was so impressed! Way to go, K-1 and K-3! In the morning, we had a bit more time in our day so they made some "wacky" portraits during our indoor recess time. They had so much fun today! Thank you for helping your child with their "wacky" outfits today! They all looked so cute and they had so much FUN! Here are some pictures from our fun day:

Emmy wanted to show me the cat detail her mom added to her costume. She took down her mask for a minute just so I could take a quick picture. Her face makeup was too cute!

This week we have been celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday by reading a book he wrote each day followed by a fun activity to go along with it. Yesterday I kicked off our week with reading, The Cat In The Hat and each of my kindergarten friends made their own rhyming hat out of paper. On each paper hat, I wrote a word family at the top and I asked each student to think of 5 words on their own that would fit into their assigned word family. They had fun thinking of words all on their own and I was so impressed with how well they all did writing the words on their hats. Way to go, K-1 and K-3!

Today, I read the class Dr. Seuss' book,  One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. As we read the book we talked about rhyming words and words that were opposites. Both classes did a wonderful job finding both throughout the story. When we finished reading the book, I gave all my kindergarten friends a small cup filled with rainbow goldfish. I asked them to sort their fish by color, graph them on their paper, and plug in their numbers in the addition sentences below their graph to figure out the totals. They had so much fun doing this fun math activity and I was so impressed how well they all did figuring out all the addition sentences. It was amazing to see! Sometimes, I think my kindergarten friends may be first graders in disguise. They truly amaze me everyday! Here are some pictures I took of both classes doing our fun Dr. Seuss math activity today:

In the afternoon class, we had a little more time in our day since we didn't have any specials. With that extra time I did a directed draw lesson with the class where I taught them how to draw a fish. It went along with the math activity we were doing earlier in our day. The class LOVED learning how to draw a fish and they had so much fun adding detail to their picture, coloring it and labeling it. After they finished their pictures, I asked them to write 2 or more sentences about their picture. I was blown away with their writing! They all did such a wonderful job doing the three things good writers do and I was so impressed! Way to go K-3! Here are some pictures of the class during our writing time today:

For something a little extra today, I did an activity with the class where they had to look at the number that was written and write the next three numbers that followed as they counted on. This was a hard concept and I was so impressed with how well all my kindergarten friends did. Wow!

It has been such a fun week so far in K-1 and K-3! Both classes are having so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss with our Dr. Seuss week! Tomorrow is "Wacky Wednesday" and I can't wait to see the wacky ways my kindergarten friends will be dressed when I see them at school tomorrow! Have a wonderful night, everyone!

With it being George Washington's birthday on February 22nd, we spent some time today learning about him and why he is so important. The class LOVED learning about George Washington from watching a Brainpop Jr. movie and taking a quiz together as a class after. Both classes got all the questions right on the quiz. Way to go, K-1 and K-3! They were EXCELLENT listeners and I was so impressed with all they learned about George Washington. After that, we did George Washington TLC project. When doing these projects, it is so fun to see how well my kindergarten friends are listening to my directions as they are making theirs on their own following my step-by-step directions. Their George Washington's all turned out amazing! Here are some pictures of my kindergarten friends making their projects:

In the morning we had a little more time since we didn't have gym and music so we did a math game called Race to 100. The class LOVED playing it! For this game, I gave them the game and a die. The point of the game was to see how many times they needed to roll their die to get to 100 at the end. As they rolled they kept track by making tally marks at the top of their page as they colored. They had so much fun playing this game today. As they were playing, they were looking around the room with excitement to share the amount they rolled on their dice. It was cute! Here are some pictures of my morning friends playing the game:

It was such a fun day in K-1 and K-3! I am SO impressed with all my kindergarten friends are learning! Have a great night, everyone!
