In honor of St. Patrick's Day coming up, we listened to a story on Friday called The Luckiest Leprechaun by Justine Korman and we made a project to go along with it. I did a directed draw lesson with the class where they listened to my step-by-step directions on how to draw a leprechaun. When we were done drawing it, I asked them to color specific parts of their picture with specific colors. Then we painted the background of the picture with watercolor paints. I was amazed with how well they all followed my step-by-step directions in making their drawings. They all turned out great! I LOVE doing these projects because it's fun to see how everyone's projects turn out when given the same directions. I like seeing how their individual personalities come out in their drawings. When they finished their drawings, they were holding up their drawings in excitement and they were so proud of how they turned out! Next, I asked them to add a little writing to their project. I asked them them to write a few sentences about what they would see at the end of their rainbow if they were a leprechaun. I loved seeing all the creative ideas they came up with and how well they all did writing their sentences on their own. The more we write in kindergarten, the more confident they are all becoming as writers! I was beyond proud of ALL my kindergarten friends! Their finished projects turned out amazing and they couldn't wait to bring them home to share with their families! Way to go, K-1 and K-3! Here are some pictures of the classes making their leprechaun projects:
