Catch That Gingerbread Man
This week, we have been having so much fun reading all different gingerbread stories and doing many gingerbread activities that go along with our kindergarten curriculum! They LOVE reading the stories and pointing all the similarities and differences among them! One of their favoirite things they got to do this week was to create their own brown bag gingerbread house and decorate their painted gingerbread man using crayon oil pastels. I love seeing the creativity they put into both projects and they joy they had on their faces while doing each one!
In math, we have been continuing to learn all about 2D (flat) and 3D (solid) shapes. This week, we have been learning how to compose new shapes using smaller shapes and putting them together. They are having fun with this math unit and challenging their brains on how to create new shapes using their learned shape knowledge. Way to go, K-1!
In writing, I have been doing a few lesson of where I teach them how to do a directed drawing. Then I ask them to add detail to their drawing, color it with "realistic" colors and label it. Last, they write one complete sentence on their own using their own "brave spelling" and remembering to implement what "good" writers do. This includes: starting their sentence with a capital letter, using finger spaces between words, and using the appropriate punctuation at the end. They are all doing so well with writing their sentences on their own and I am so proud of them!
I am looking forward to a exciting last week with my kindergarten friends before winter break. They can't wait to make a "real" gingerbread man on Thursday and hopefully eat it for snack that day. In the past, the gingerbread man has always run away. We shall see what happens, stay tuned!
