We did an HMH heart word gingerbread man "Write Around The Room" this morning. The class LOVED being assigned a partner and walking around the classroom to find all the hidden gingerbread man pictures with heart words displayed on them. I LOVED walking around during this activity to see how well they worked with one another and seeing them read all the words before writing them down on their recording sheet. Way to go, K-1 friends!
I also did a fun lesson with them today where I read Gingerbread In Disguise and we did a cute activity to go along with it. This story was about a gingerbread man who didn't happen to like this time of year because it was the time that he usually gets eaten. He had to think of something quick to avoid getting eaten such as wearing a costume. It was a really cute story! The class loved seeing all the creative disguises he came up with in the story! When I finished reading the story and talking about it, I gave them all a piece of journal paper with a gingerbread on it. I asked them to choose one of the papers from the back table that had a costume on it. They got to color the gingerbread and the costume and put it together so their gingerbread man had a disguise. Then they wrote a sentence about what their gingbread man was dressed up as. It was such a cute activity and the class LOVED it! Here are some pictures of the book we read and the pages the class created.
In math, we are still learning all about 2D (flat) shapes and 3D (solid) shapes. We are also learning how you can use a bunch of shapes together to create one big shape. They are loving math and are becoming quite the shape experts!
