Stop! Stop! Gingerbread Man!!!

Today was a day in kindergarten my friends will never forget. We made a "real" gingerbread man in class and when we were finished we voted if our cookie was going to be a boy or girl and what it's name should be. We decided as a class it should be a boy and the name that had the most votes was "Ginger." Next it was time for special storytime in the LMC windowed hallway. This is when all 6 kindergarten classes met in the windowed hallway and I read them all The Gingerbread Man Loose In The School. They LOVED the story and they all did wonderful listening and chiming into the rhyming parts as we read it together. To ensure our gingerbread man didn't run away while we were goine, we put it on shelf, locked it in the bathroom, and put many chairs against it so it couldn't get out of the door. We even locked our classroom door too. When we walked back to our class after our special storytime, we found cookie crumbs scattered all over our classroom rug, the chairs and lunch bins were flipped over. The gingerbread man had run away but left us a note explaining that he was off to explore at Olive and then our hunt began....we had to try to catch that gingerbread man! We went on our hunt with two other kindergarten classes because their gingerbread cookies had run away too. With having 6 sections of kindergarten this year, we split the groups in half (3 classes together) to make it more fun and ensure we were able to stick together. In kindergarten we always say "Teamwork is the dreamwork!" We decided to look for our cookies together. After looking all over the school, we came to our last clue in the school office. The gingerbread man explained how much fun he had visiting our school but that he had to leave and left us some gingerbread cookies to eat instead. It was such a fun day in K-1! Here are some pictures of our fun hunt below:

That is a picture of the class with "Ginger" our gingerbread man and they were so excited to decorate it and eat it for a "special" snack this morning! But our gingerbread man had other plans....we came back from our "special" kindergarten storytime and he was gone but he left us a clue on where to find him.
We put on our costumes quickly in hopes we would be able to find him if we were all in gingerbread disguise.
We went to Mrs. Martens room to see if their gingerbread cookie had run away. It did so we decided to go to Mrs. Spaitis' class as well to ask her if they had seen our gingerbread cookies and if theirs ran away too. It sure did so we stuck together and went on a gingerbread hunt all throughout the school looking for clues left by the gingerbread man. We searched the first grade hallway, LMC, gym. art and music but still no gingerbread man was to be found. The last clue led us to the office where the gingerbread man said he was sorry but he couldn't stay he had to leave to go on his way. The classes were so sad we didn't catch the gingerbread man but he left us some yummy gingerbread cookies to enjoy in our classroom instead. They LOVED having their special cookies and talking about all the fun they had on the gingerbread hunt today and where they think he went.
It was such a fun day in kindergarten and I know this will be one they will never forget and talk about many, many times in years to come! Our 5th graders still come to the kindergarten teachers and tell us how much they loved this special day in kindergarten and how much magic and joy it borught to them when they were 5 or 6 years old. That gingerbread man is really fast! Maybe we'll catch him next year!
