Happy Birthday, Abraham Lincoln!

With it being Abraham Lincoln's birthday today and President's Day on the 16th, we learned all about Abraham Lincoln today and why he was such an important president. We watched a Brainpop Jr. movie about him and we learned a lot of wonderful facts that really stuck with my kindergarten friends. To showcase what my classes learned today, we did a paper Abraham Lincoln following directions activity. I was so impressed with how well they followed my step-by-step directions in making their Abraham Lincoln. I was blown away today! Way go go, K-1! Here are some pictures I took of the class today:

In math, we have been loving this unit learning Addition up to 5. I have even challenged them with up to 10. They are all becoming quite the addition experts. To practice this newly learned skill, I taught them a game called "Boom, Boom, Clap Addition. " It's a game they play with a partner and it is teacher led. We clap our hands in a pattern, I call out an addition sentence, and one person has to grab the addition answer from the middle of the two players. We keep playing until all the number cards are gone from the middle. At the end, they count up how many cards they have and the person with the most is the winner. We played several times and the class LOVED it! It was a great way to practice their addition is a quick fun way while also learning how to be a "good sport" while playing a game. We are learning that sometimes we can't always win and games are fun to just play with a friend to learn. Great job, K-1!
In HMH we are continuing to learn letters and sounds and are growing so much as readers and writers! It's so exciting!!! Dont' forget tomrrow is our Valentine's Day party and make sure your child brings their valentines for the class tomorrow!
