It's so fun to be a scientist!
This week, we began our Pushes and Pulls unit in Science. The class is LOVING this unit and are enjoying experimenting, observing, making predictions, documenting what they learned in their science journals and being "real" scientists. Today, we talked about what the words motion means and we did a science activity to go along with it. After the activity, they took our their science journals and I asked them to draw one thing they saw in motion on the playground during recess today. I was so impressed with their detailed drawings and coloring. They also labeled their pictures too. Wow! I am so proud of my little scientists!
In math today we finished Chapter 7 learning about addition. They took the chapter test today and they ALL did wonderful! All 17 of my kindergarten friends are experts adding within 5 and can even add with ease up to 10. Way to go, K-1!
In structured literacy, we are continuing to work on those "tricky digraphs" to solidify their knowledge of them and plug them in while reading and writing. With each lesson, I have noticed them getting better and better at remembering the sounds they make and they are all growing so much as readers and writers! In HMH reading, we have been reading many fiction stories and learning how to be be a brave writer! They are learning how to write up to 2 complete sentences on their own and ensure they include all the things good writers do. This week in grammar, we have been learning about quotation marks. We have learnd what they look like and why author's use them in their writing. We have practiced adding them in sentences that don't have them and need them for the sentence to be writing correctly. They did a great job learning about this type of punctuation. Every day is full of excitement, smiles and growth! I am so impressed with all my kindergarten friends are learning! They have all made such wonderful progress and it's so exciting to see them accomplish so much with me in the classroom!
