We had so much fun reading Fox In Socks today by Dr. Seuss. It had so many rhyming words that it sure was a tongue twister to read out loud. To go along with the fun book, all my kinder friends came to school today dressed in their favorite pair of silly socks and they got to write their own page for our class book where they drew the socks they wore and why they were silly. We had so much fun looking through the class book and seeing all the pages our classmates created. I was so proud of the drawings and the fantastic writing they all did! I was also very proud of how nice and neat their handwriting was as well. Wow!
We also did a Fox In Socks directed draw too. For this activity, they followed my step-by-step directions in drawing the fox in socks. When we finished drawing, I gave them all a black sharpie marker and they traced over their pencil lines to make it darker. I asked them to add detail and color on the fox's socks however they'd like to. Then, we colored the fox together following my directions and they got to complete the project by painting their own background with watercolor paints. They had so much fun making this project and they were all so proud of how their drawings turned out. They are AMAZING! I have them hung all around the room hanging from our ceiling. I thought they would be fun to enjoy in the clasroom for a bit. Here are some pictures of their Fox In Socks projects:
In structured literacy, we practiced rhyming words where they did a rhyming
Cat In The Hat activity. They had to match the bottom and top a hat with pictures that rhyme. I also asked them to write the words for the pictures next to it too. They all did such a great job finding the matching rhyming hats and sounding out the words to spell them on their own. Yay, K-1! They are becoming experts with rhyming!
In reading this afternoon, we discussed more of The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza) making inferences and identifying character traits. Then in grammar, I taught them about prepositions. They learned that prepositions are words that connect verbs, nouns, or pronouns to other words in a sentence. We practiced finding prepositions in sentences I gave them in a class and then we did an activity in their workbooks for added practice. They did great! This is a hard concept and I was so impressed with how well they learned it today.
In math, we are continuing to learn about subraction but now focuses more on subtraction stories. They are all doing so well learning subtraction and they love the challenge of it. Way to go, K-1! What a fun day today! I am looking forward to ending our week with
