Wacky Wednesday
It was so much fun today greeting all my friends this morning and seeing them all dressed in a "wacky" way today for Wacky Wednesday. We began our day doing the calendar and I did our routine in a fun, wacky way. They all giggled through calendar today and had so much fun doing some of the things backwards or in a wacky way. Next, I read the class Dr. Seuss' story called Wacky Wednesday and they LOVED finding all the wacky things on each page. They did a great job finding them and they were all raising their hands bursting to tell me what they found on each page. After we did a Wacky Wednesday mini-book where I asked friends in the class to take turns reading a page until we read the book in it's entirety. As we read the book, we talked about all the funny, wacky things on each page and we highlighted the "heart" words on the pages. Way to go, K-1!
We did a Dr. Seuss "write around the room" activity where they got to walk around the classroom with an assigned partner and find hidden pictures all around the room. They were asked to write the words on their recording sheet. All of the pictures were things you see or read about in Dr. Seuss' books. They LOVED doing this activity today!
In science, we have been learning about pushes and pulls. Today's lesson focused on turns, curves, zigzags. We are continuing to explore how a push or pull can change an objects' motion. In this lesson today, they experienced a push or pull is needed to start, stop, or change the direction or speed of an object that is moving. We played a robot game as a class to and then they got to participate in moving a ball along a path activity with a small group. During science today, I was amazed with how well they all worked together and how detailed they were in drawing how their ball moved along the path. We had a great discussion after on which shape had the most pushes or pulls to keep the ball on the path and their thinking to why. They were amazing scientists today! They are having so much fun with this unit!
In math, we are continuing to learn subtraction. They are all doing such a wonderful job learning subtraction and are all getting a hang of it!
It's been such a fun Dr. Seuss week in K-1! Tomorrow we will be reading Dr. Seuss' book Fox in Socks and they can wear some silly socks tomorrow for a fun writing activity. Have a wonderful night, everyone!
