In math today, I did a lesson with the class where we learned about how numbers are composed of smaller numbers. We practiced composing and decomposing numbers too. They loved doing math today and having the challenge of doing some extra activities in their math workbooks and on Seesaw to practice these concepts further. Both classes did a fantastic job!

In Jolly Phonics today, we learned all about the letter Zz and sound it makes. The motion for the letter Zz is to put your arms out at your sides as if you are a bee and say zzzzzzzzzzzzz. After we learned about this letter and the sound, my kindergarten friends got to practice writing the letter on their own and finding things that began with the letter Zz sound. They all did such a wonderful job! I am amazed how well they are learning their letters/sounds and transferring that knowledge into reading and writing words on their own. Great job, K-1 and K-3!

It was a fantastic day in kindergarten! I am looking forward to another fantastic day tomorrow!

On Friday, we learned how to write the Uppercase B and R the correct way through our Handwriting Without Tears program.  Both of these uppercase letters are "frog jump letters." Before they practiced writing the letters in their workbooks, they learned how to write the letters the correct way using whiteboards. I asked them to write the letter with a dry erase marker and trace over it with their finger erasing it as they traced. They all did such a great job! Then they practiced writing the letters in their workbooks.  I was so impressed with how nice and neat all my kindergarten friends formed all the letters!

In Jolly Phonics we learned the digraph ee/or sounds. The motion for these sounds is to put your hands over your head, flapping them up and down like donkey ears saying eeyore, eeyore.  Both classes loved learning this new sound and did a great job thinking of words that had both sounds within the word. I was impressed with how well they applied what the learned about this sound when completing their Jolly Phonics packets. They all did a great job circling pictures of things with both sounds and writing a few of the words on their own. For homework, they needed to think of and draw two things in their soundbook that had the "ee" sound and two things that had the "or" sound. I also assigned an ee/or sort on Seesaw for added practice.

In math, I did a lesson with both classes about the concept of longer than and shorter than. They did a great job taking what they learned in the lesson and applying it to the practice pages in their math workbooks and the Seesaw activity I assigned for added practice.

It was a fabulous day in kindergarten! Have a great weekend, everyone!

In Jolly Phonics today, I taught the class the "ie" digraph sound. The motion for this sound is to stand to attention and salute saying ie, ie. Both classes did a wonderful job learning the sound and applying what they learned in circling words that had the sound within the word. It was so much fun hearing all my kindergarten friends read words that had the new sound within the words too. They are all becoming wonderful readers and with each new sound they learn, they are able to read and spell more and more words on their own. Great job, K-1 and K-3!

After Jolly Phonics, we took a "brain break" and went outside to play on the playground with our masks on. It was so fun to hear all the giggles and see the huge smiles as they ran around together on the playground!

At the end of our kindergarten day, I did a TLC activity with both classes where I taught them how to make a jack-o-lantern out of cut out construction paper. They did such a great job following my step-by-step directions and turning their own pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns with the left over black and white paper they have left. I LOVED seeing all their finished projects! They turned out amazing!

It was another fantastic day in kindergarten! Have a great night, everyone!
