Today was such a fun day in K-1 and K-3! We learned all about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in honor of having the day off from school on Monday due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We watched a Brainpop Jr. movie to learn all about him and why we have a "special' holiday in honor of him and all his hard work. To go along with all we learned, we made a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. TLC project. I am SO proud of what AMAZING listeners all my kindergarten friends were and their projects turned out absolutely amazing! Here are some pictures of both classes with their adorable Martin Luther King, Jr. projects and some making them in the classroom. Yes....they had to take some silly photos too! :)

After making our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. projects, we had a well deserved brain break and had indoor recess. They all had so much fun playing in the classroom together!

For the last part of our day, we did some journaling in our January journals. I asked both classes to write about what their favorite holiday gift was. They did such a great job drawing, coloring and labeling their pictures. When their pictures were finished, I asked them to write a sentence or two about their picture. I was so impressed with their detailed pictures and how well they all did writing a sentence on their own using their "brave spelling!" Way to go, K-1 and K-3!

I have LOVED having my kinders back in the classroom the past two days after our long winter break! I have been amazed with how well they have adjusted so quickly to our kindergarten routine and how well they are listening and following directions. The past two days have been so much fun and I have loved every second of seeing their smiley faces back in the classroom and the excitement they all have in learning!

On Tuesday, we made our January calendars in class. My kinder friends had so much fun making their calendars and seeing all the exciting things that are happening in our classroom and at Olive. They LOVED learning how to make snowflakes out of paper and adding them to their January calendars.

Today we were really busy owls and completed a lot in class! In math, we learned more about teen numbers and how to show them correctly on ten frames to understand the quantity of each number. When we practiced using ten frames today, I was so impressed with how well they were able to show me the amount of each number on their ten frames. They did great! 

In handwriting, we learned how to form a few more lowercase letters so they sat appropriately on the lines and we learned how to make them the right way from top to bottom. I am so impressed with how far all my kindergarten friends' handwriting has come and how nice and neat they are writing letters and words on the lines! Way to go, K-1 and K-3!

Both classes LOVED the project we made today in class. We made a snowman name project where I asked each kindergarten friend to write their name by writing a letter on each of the snowballs. They glued them on a blue piece of construction paper in order to display their name as a snowman. To make the project fun and unique, I asked my kinder friends to use their creativity into adding more detail to their snowman name such as snow, snowflakes in falling in the background, and adding a hat, scarf and arms tot their snowman. They LOVED making this project and I loved seeing all the creative details they added to their projects! I hung them up in the hall outside of our classroom for all of Olive to admire. It was such a fun last two days in K-1 and K-3 and I am looking forward to the remainder of the week with all my kindergarten friends!

 Today was a fun last day in kindergarten before the long winter break! Our morning started off with a "Story time With The Principals" where Ms. Davis and Mrs. Pemberton read the class a story and they got to do an activity to go along with it. They had so much fun at this special story time especially because they got to sit with their 5th grade buddies for the activity. 

After, we did a December Roll and Write where my kinder friends got to practice their sight words for the month. They LOVE doing this activity to see what sight word will win and get to the top first! After we did a phonics activity where they needed to fill in the words on the page with the missing middle sound. This was good practice for my kinder friends in decoding words and hearing the vowels in C-V-C words. They did fantastic on both activities! 

For something fun today, Mrs. Martens and I combined our classes for the last part of the day where we they got to make their own groups of 5 friends and be engineers today. We asked them to design and build something with their group out of the materials we provided that would help the gingerbread man get across the water safely. We had tubs of water where they got to try out their design to see if it worked and if not, they were able to problem solve with their group on how they could change it so that it would be successful. They came up with some amazing ideas and it was so fun walking around the classroom to hear the discussions that were happening as they decided on what they were going to build and how they were going to do it. They also did a great job building together as as team and problem solving together! It was such a fun morning! Here are some pictures of the kinders with during this fun activity:
