In Jolly Phonics today, we learned the double oo sound. We learned that it makes two sounds.  The little and long oo. The action for oo is to imagine being the cuckoo in a cuckoo clock, jutting your head forward and back, saying the call of the cuckoo: u, oo; u, oo.  We learned it makes the sound:

little oo- such as in cook, book, look, hook

long oo- such as in moon, soon, tooth

Both classes did a wonderful job learning this new double letter sound and thinking of words that had both oo sounds. I was so impressed! At the end of our lesson today, we read some words with the double oo sound and I was amazed with how well they are all doing sounding out the words on their own. They are all on their way to becoming strong, confident readers! Wow!

In math, we did some practice pages in our workbook. On these pages, it gave my kindergarten friends more practice learning one-on-one correspondence, adding one more and figuring out the total and adding two small numerals together to get a total. Whenever we do math, I can tell that both classes really enjoy working with numbers and the challenge of it.

The rest of our day was filled with art and some independent work time on the things we learned today. I am so proud of everything my kindergarten friends are learning! It was a great day! Have a wonderful night, everyone!
