K-1 and K-3

It was another great day in K-1 and K-3 welcoming my second half of my hybrid learners today in the morning and afternoon class! They all came in with HUGE smiles and you could just feel the excitement as they sat at their individual tables in the classroom. It was so cute! Here are some things we did today:

In Jolly Phonics, we learned the "oa" digraph sound like in the words goat, coat, groan, boat. The motion for this sound is to bring your hand over your mouth as if something terrible has happened and say oh! They did wonderful learning this letter sound and I was so proud of how well they could read the words with the oa sound in it at the end of our Jolly Phonics lesson and circling words that had the sound in it on their packets. It was amazing! Way to go, K-1 and K-3! For homework, I asked them to finish their "oa" page in their packet if they didn't at school or at home, glue in the oa page in their soundbook and think of four things that have that sound within the word and do the "oa" sort on Seesaw. All these activities help them in learning the sound a little more and have practice hearing the sound within words.

In math, I did a lesson with discussing the concepts of "bigger than" and "shorter than" & "taller than" and "shorter than." They did great learning both concepts and showing me what they learned while doing two activity pages in their math workbooks.

In handwriting, we learned how to make the uppercase letter D and P with the correct letter formation. These two letters are "frog jump" letters like yesterday where they begin at the starting corner and go down to the bottom line and "frog jump" back up to the starting corner to finish the letter. They all did such a beautiful job writing their letters and ensuring they were writing them nice and slow in their workbooks!

I was so proud of all the things my kindergarten friends learned today! They all worked SO hard and I am so proud of how well they are following the kindergarten routine and listening! During our day today, we took a well-deserved "brain break" where we got to play on the playground with our masks on. They loved having the opportunity to run around on the playground and getting to know one another. It is so much fun to see all the adorable friendships that are forming! I have two wonderful classes! Have a great night, everyone!
