Thankful Turkeys

With Thanksgiving happening next week, we made some thankful turkeys today in class. The turkeys we made were a BIG project that required a lot of listening and following directions. I taught the class how to do three steps and then they would go to their table spots and complete it on their own and we would then learn three more steps. We kept doing this routine until our turkeys were finished. When our turkeys were all put together, I asked my kinder friends to write something they were thankful for on each feather. They all did a fabulous job sounding out the words they wanted to write with their "brave spelling!" I am impressed each and every day with how much growth they are growing as learners! Here are some of my adorable kinder friends with their amazing turkeys that they put so much hard work into:

Now that we have finished Jolly Phonics, we have been working really hard on applying what we learned through this wonderful program while reading and writing on our own. Today they did an activity where I asked them to look at the pictures on the page and write the words on their own separating the sounds to spell it correctly. They all did a great job! I am finding that the vowels are tricky so please make sure you keep practicing the digraphs and those tricky vowel sounds. A lot of my kinder friends mistake the "e" sound for the "a" sound. With little reminders, they are able to fix it with the right sound. I am so proud of the amazing growth they are all making as writers! Way to go, K-1 and K-3!

In math, we are continuing to learn about measurement where we have learned all about measuring length, height and weight. Both classes have loved this math unit and are having fun measuring various objects with different math manipulatives. I am so proud of all they are learning in math!

We have been learning so much in kindergarten and each day they are growing more and more as learners! I am blown away with how well they are reading and writing words on their own! It has been so exciting!

We are measuring experts!

In class this week, we have been learning about measurement and why we measure things. They have learned the concept of longer and shorter and have gotten a lot of practice showing me they understand this new concept. The classes have had so much fun with the hands-on experience of getting to measure objects in the room with unifix cubes! In kindergarten, we are giving them the opportunity to learn the concept of measurement and how to practice measuring the length or height of objects. They will be learning how to use a ruler when they measure in older grades but this a good start to the concept to build upon later. Today they got to work with partners and work together to fill out an activity where I asked them to measure various things in the classroom and record how many cubes long they were. It was so fun seeing them all working together as partners and learning from one another! I was so proud of their team work!

We had a fun filled day today and I am beyond blown away with all they are learning! It is truly AMAZING! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Happy November!

With it being a "new" month, we got to make our November calendars today and I also sent home our new sight words for the month a few days ago. They all worked so hard on their November calendars and they turned out so cute! They couldn't wait to bring them home to share with all of you! These calendars are A LOT of work but they are learning SO much while they create them such as: problem solving, following directions, practicing writing their numbers from 1-30 in order the correct way, how to turn shapes into other shapes, patterns, working on strengthening their fine motor skills and so much more! We had so much fun making the calendars today!

In Jolly Phonics today, we learned the letter "qu" digraph sound like in the words: quack,  quilt, queen, quit. When talking about things they could think of that began with "qu" or had the digraph in it, they were able to think of quite a few words so I know tonight's homework will be really easy for them! I am amazed with how quickly they are learning the new Jolly Phonics sounds and applying what we learned into thinking of words that begin with the sound and writing the words on their own in their packets using "brave spelling!" It's truly AMAZING! They have all really taken off as readers and writers! When doing the Jolly Phonics lesson, they are always super excited to get to the end of the lesson where we get to read words as a class that contain the newly learned sound. I am so proud of all my kinder friends!

In the morning class today, we also got to celebrate Ameila's 6th birthday with her! Happy Birthday, Ameila!
